Continue Reading »]]> I love learning about small, local stations and their nuances. SIBC , Lerwick air their 5pm news at 5.01 and 23 seconds. Why? Well, it is researched -backed. Owners Ian and Inga have timed the average period it takes for a driver to leave their place of work (it is 5pm closing in Shetland) and get to their car!

They also boost the studio mic at 9.5 khz. Regular listeners don’t notice any difference but Ian says that, for hard-of-hearing listeners, it is the difference between being able to hear the news or not .
